This committee advises the Mayor, City Council, County Board of Commissioners and Board of Health on needed revisions to local air quality regulations. It also functions as an appeals board for decisions made by the Air Pollution Control Office. Members are appointed by the Mayor, City Council and County Board.

Emerging Green Builders are students and young professionals dedicated to becoming and recruiting the future leaders of the green building movement. EGB groups around the country offer young people the opportunity to get involved in green building locally, gain access to USGBC resources, and participate in local events. The main two purposes of EGB are to inspire and empower young leaders in the building movement and to promote environmentally responsible design on our campus and in our community.

The League of Conservation Voters focuses on clean and abundant water, fresh air and wide-open spaces. NLCV works at the state, county and local levels across Nebraska. The Nebraska League is a member of a federation of state organizations, coordinated through the National League of Conservation Voters.

LGbD collaborates with the Mayor’s Environmental Advisory Committee, works to adhere to the 2006 U.S. Conference of Mayors resolution on Green Building and Energy, promotes long-term sustainable development, evaluates existing codes, ordinances, and regulations for sustainability barriers, and is creating a public resource and educational center for information and leadership for the long-term sustainability of Lincoln and Lancaster County.

The Nebraska State Recycling Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to resource conservation and recycling. Their mission is to serve as a catalyst, improving the consumer’s ability to conserve resources, protect air, land and water by meeting solid waste management and recycling challenges with local resources. It is their intent to bring together local and regional markets for recycled commodities, profitably. NSRA originally provided services for recycling only, but as the organization grew, resource conservation and solid waste management were added to their expanded mission.

The Joslyn Institute for Sustainable Communities focuses on the built environment to promote sustainable development. The Joslyn Institute (JISC) works independently from the University of Nebraska in its advocacy and modeling of sustainable design and development. Wachiska Audubon Nebraska is a local chapter of the National Audubon Society and has accomplished a lot on behalf of birds, wildlife habitat preservation, responsible urban development and support of nature education for children and adults. The Wachiska Chapter has also had a role in preserving several tall grass prairie remnants located in Butler, Gage, Cass, Colfax, Fillmore, Gage, Johnson, Lancaster, Otoe, Pawnee, Saline, Saunders and Richardson counties in Southeast Nebraska.

WasteCap Nebraska is a non-profit organization that provides confidential, non-regulatory waste reduction and recycling services to Nebraska businesses. WasteCap offers on-site assessments, employee training, workshops and product recycling research as well as recycling contract management services. Their mission is to provide resource conservation assistance to Nebraska businesses and serve as a proactive catalyst for Nebraska businesses and institutions for the conservation of resources, as well as to facilitate partnerships and coordinate resources to increase the value and marketability of recycling commodities and access to recycling services.
